Prepurchase Exam
When purchasing a horse, it may be required that the animal have a prepurchase exam performed. This allows an equine veterinarian to examine and detect any existing or potential health issues that may affect the horse. There are four phases to a prepurchase exam, in which our equine veterinarians assess a horse’s complete condition. Beginning with a thorough identification of the horse’s distinguishing characteristics, we then move on to examining the horse’s body and internal organs.

Vaccinations
Many different types of vaccinations are available for horses. Since every horse has a different lifestyle, it is important to discuss vaccinations with us. Some horses travel and are surrounded by lots of other horses while others simply stay at home. Your horse may need certain vaccinations due to where they live. There are many diseases that are more prevalent in certain areas. By discussing your horse’s vaccines with us, you can make sure that your horse is adequately protected without over-vaccinating him or her. For foals, we start most vaccinations when they are between four and six months old. Most then need to be boostered. There are some vaccinations that need to be given when the foal is around eight or nine months. Some versions need to be boostered while others don’t.

A horse’s mobility is vital to their everyday life and happiness, so lameness can be a major issue. Lameness is any abnormality in the gait or stance, usually caused by pain, illness, or injury of some sort. There are a variety of causes, so a thorough examination may be necessary to determine the issue. We have vast experience treating lameness, so rest assured that your horse is in good hands.
